ZLDS210 are a Unique Series of Laser Scanners Performing Profile Measurement in 2D.
The ZLDS210 series are laser scanners of the Flying Spot type developed for the need of 2D profile measurement in any kind of industrial application.
The Flying Spot principle use a single spot instead of a laser line. This makes it possible to have measurement ranges up to 1300 mm.
The ZLDS210 Seires covers 8 different measuring ranges. The smallest is 100 mm and largest is 1300 mm. The resolution varies from 0.03 mm to 0.8 mm. The smaller the measuring range is, the better the resolution will be. ZLDS210 models are available with measuring frequencies of 2 kHz or 6 kHz.

The ZLDS210 Seires is a compact unit where optics, CCD-camera, and digital electronics all are integrated. There is no need for a separate controller unit. The output is a serial interface RS422 or RS232 (or optional Ethernet).
The actual interface to the application software is a DLL library for programs running under Windows.
Synchronization:
As a rather unique feature the ZLDS210 Seires Scanner is available in synchronized versions where two or more units works together to perform complex 2D/geometric measurements. The working principle is one master scanner unit together with one or more slave units – as for example, when four units controls dimensions and shape in tube- or similar productions process.
Multi ZLDS210 applications
The ZLDS210 scanners are also available in a syn-chronized version, where the units are programmed to operate as either a SLAVE unit or as a MASTER unit controlling one or more SLAVE units.
High Target Temperature
The ZLDS210 scanners are also available in high target temperature and high Laser light intensity versions named HT, VHT and VVHT. The HT version is made for surface temperatures up to 1000ºC. The VHT can handle surface temperatures up to 1300ºC. The VVHT, using a BLUE laser diode, brings target temperature up to as high as 2.200ºC.
Water-cooled protection house is available as extra. To further expand the usability of ZLDS210 scanners for High Temperature applications, we have developed a water-cooled protection house in stainless steel to enclose the sensors. The sensor is surrounded on all sides except from the backside by 5 water chambers. This ensures a very effective cooling and protection and allow the sensor to operate close the hot targets like white glowing steel.
The ZLDS210 scanner is developed for the need of 2D-/profile-measurement in any kind of industrial application. The applications where the ZLDS210 Seires Scanner family can be used are innumerable. From Steel-, metal and construction industry to food and car production – everywhere a non-contact precision profile scanning is advantageous.
The ruggedly constructed scanner is designed to give a very reliable measuring performance with good measuring accuracy. With output data in the software-converted form, the Y-coordinates can be used for width or height measurement with a resolution dependent of the user ordered scan arch.
A few examples where the ZLDS210 Seires scanners are being used:
Food Industry:
Measuring volume of cheese before it is cut out in segment and equal weight.
Metal Industry:
Measuring side profiles of aluminum slabs.
Steel Industry:
Measuring height of large steel slabs instead of thickness from above and below. Measuring diameter of steel tubes.
Car Industry:
Profile measuring tyre sides.
The ZLDS210 scanner is an optical measuring device for non-contact precision measurement in two dimensions. The measurement is performed by oscillating the triangulation plane over X° up to 50°. A fine collimated or focused laser beam is diffusely reflected from the surface of almost any kind of material or fluid, and a CCD-camera records the image through an objective. This ma-kes it possible for a Digital Signal Processor to calculate the (radial) distance from the centre of the mirror axis to the object surface, as well as keeping track of the angular reference position.
The ZLDS210 measuring system is a compact unit where optics, CCD-camera, and digital signal processing electronics all are integrated in thesensor housing. The schematic drawing to the right shows the scanner seen from the side. It is here indicated, with this orientation of the scanner, howthe triangulation plane can sweep from minus 25° below the horizontal plane to plus 25° above the horizontal plane. The measured distance data is available with a measuring frequency of 2 or 6 kHz as a digital signal for an application running under Windows and using the ZLDS210 driver DLL.
The scanner is delivered with CD’s containing the mentioned DLL and a Windows test/demo program. The PC application program receives outputdata from the scanner over the RS422/RS232 serial interface (or Ethernet ) and a COM port via the DLL. The software either converts polar coordinates of a measurement point to orthogonal X,Y-coordinates or presents a profile (table of X, Yvalues) for each sweep from one side to the other. Within the application program the user can specify the seize of the Y-increment and thus the length of the output table containing the profile data.
